Glen Ridge is a small town right next to Montclair, a couple of train stops closer to New York City on the midtown-direct line. It started out as part of Newark, then seceded with Bloomfield, until it finally became its own town in 1895.

It is known for its beautiful houses–some even designed by famous architects Stanford White, John Russell Pope, and Frank Lloyd Wright and its charming streets lit by historic gas lamps each night. The town is vigorous about its nineteenth century landmarks and reviews all new construction in line with strict preservation laws.

Glen Ridge is a town that feels like a neighborhood, as it does not have a major shopping district and is a short drive from the well-known restaurants and unique shops of Montclair and Bloomfield. Glen Ridge has a nice quantity of starter homes in the south end of town. It also has great appeal for people who want schools that are regularly ranked among the top in the state.

Fun Fact: Actor/producer Tom Cruise went to Glen Ridge High School, excelled on the wrestling team and worked as a waiter at the Glen Ridge Country Club.
