The Baird Community Center in South Orange has many features, a few of which are a basketball court, tennis court, lighted platform tennis court, and shuffleboard.
Across from the Baird, and within the Cameron Field Complex, the South Orange Community Pool - also known as the Peter S. Connor Memorial Swimming Pool - is restricted to full-time residents of South Orange. The Cameron Field Complex also features tennis courts, playground, baseball diamond, and a field sports area.
The Maplewood Community Pool is open to residents through a paid membership. The Pool offers members locker rooms, restrooms, concession stand, three pools, a diving well with several diving boards of different heights, and a waterslide. The Maplewood Community Pool hosts New Jersey's only public 10-meter dive tower. They even have a summer concert series!
The South Orange Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs offers many recreational opportunities including several types of camps, wrestling, gardening, basketball, baseball, softball, skiing, dance, fitness and wellness, swim activities, and more.
Parks & Gardens
From September until May, residents of Maplewood can participate in the Maplewood Garden Club at the Maplewood Memorial Library. The annual plant sale helps to raise money for the beautification of Maplewood, educational outreach, scholarships, and more. The Garden Club maintains several gardens and greenhouses throughout Maplewood including the award-winning Durand-Hadden Herb Garden and the 1,200 square foot Hilton Rain Garden.
Maplewood is home to several parks. Borden Park off Parker Avenue features a field, playground, and tennis court. DeHart Park on Burnett Avenue features a playground, field, tennis court, and street hockey rink. Maplecrest Park on Oakland Road features a skate park, baseball/softball field, picnic tables, playground tennis court, and park building.
