West Orange Recreation

The South Mountain Recreation Complex features a variety of recreation opportunities including the Turtle Back Zoo, Codey Arena, Mini-GOLF, and more. The complex is adjacent to a 2,000-acre natural reserve which includes picnic areas, hiking trails, paddle boats, and more. Spend some time skating around at Codey Arena. They have two Olympic size rinks and offer lessons as well as public skating. Enjoy 19 holes of award-winning mini golf at Essex County Safari Mini Golf. You'll feel like you're in Africa as you putt around life-size animals such as a hippo and gorilla. Swing from the trees at the TreeTop Adventure Course. This world-class aerial obstacle course has obstacles for both adults and children as young as 6. You can also spend your day at the Waterfront of the South Mountain Recreation Complex. Enjoy a paddleboat launch, playground, walking path, and more. Events such as a fishing derby are held at the Waterfront throughout the year. 

Opened in 1926, the Francis A. Byrne Golf Course features deep bunkers and over 6,000 yards. This challenging course is popular amongst both locals and tourists. 

The Eagle Rock Reservation is a more than 400-acre park along the Watchung Mountains. Hike the 40-mile Lenape Trail along the Eastern edge of the park, or spend a leisurely day picnicking. This gorgeous park offers hiking trails suitable for all ages and abilities.
