Last weekend, Oksana and I spent Saturday at the Montclair Gay Pride Festival, the second that our town has hosted. Keller Williams was a sponsor, so we had our own table right near the YMCA and one of the three performance stages.
What a blast!
It’s been so amazing to see the spirit of this community in every outdoor festival that has taken place since it’s been safe to gather again in groups. A few weeks ago, the AAPI took over Edgemont Park for a Lantern Festival, lining the perimeter walking path with paper lanterns that glowed as the sun went down. I don’t ever remember seeing so many people in the park; it was like a gigantic outdoor block party!
The Gay Pride Festival is many times bigger and drew people from everywhere. One article said it was New Jersey’s biggest Pride event and that they expected upwards of 20,000 people. From our KW booth it felt like that could have been true!
I personally love when they close off streets to cars for a massive celebration like this, which is totally appropriate in this walkable, bikeable suburb. Parents brought kids in strollers and on bikes. Families showed up with dogs. It felt like one big party, and EVERYONE was invited.
This is my town at its best – a big, amazing daylong event where everyone can come out and enjoy food, performances, activities, and each other. Out Montclair organized a phenomenal event, one of the many that make me so proud to live here and be a part of this community.
If you are looking for a place that welcomes everyone, let me show you around Montclair.
